After months of work the NFB/Interactive site was officially launched in front an industry audience today at the Banff World Television Festival/NextMedia Conference.
I couldn’t happier. It is an incredible project to be a part of. The best part has been getting to work with so much talent. The core internal team at the NFB is amazing and brings together some of the finest storytellers, designers and programmers in the country.
The NFB has a history of avant-garde technical and creative firsts and from the beginning pushed us to carry that legacy forward. We were encouraged to take risks in conceiving a site that could host a variety of projects – interactive documentaries, video and animations, photographic art and essays, data visualization, mobile and locative media, community media and user-generated media – and which would facilitate real collaboration between creatives and technologists.
In Banff, the NFB’s Rob McLaughlin and Hugues Sweeney did the presenting, taking the audience through the site and letting creators know about the opportunities it affords. I didn’t get to attend the launch personally (a social media seminar at UBC kept me away from Banff for the first time in a few years) but following the the positive twittering happening during the presentation was fun.
